Our School
Board candidates will work hard to ensure:
- That
our new high schools are well constructed, on time and on budget;
- Improved
communication with our community; and
- Respect
for our tax dollars by controlling runaway spending.
These five impressive individuals are committed to
the belief that all of Lower Merion’s children can receive the best
education this country has to offer right here in our distinguished
public schools.
- Sheryl
Bartos has the ideal perspective we need on the school board.
She is the involved mother of two young daughters: a first
grader at Cynwyd Elementary where Sheryl is a class parent, and a
preschooler headed for Cynwyd in the fall.
For the last two years, Sheryl has served as PTA co-president
for the Gateway School. She
has her Masters in Education from University of Virginia and has
worked in hospice care and as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
She and her husband, Jeff, live in Merion.
- Bill
Duffy, as an educator for over 40 years, brings a broad-based
background to the position. He
has worked as a science teacher, a department chair, an assistant
principal and a principal. Bill holds a Master’s degree in Science
Education and Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Educational
Leadership. He is currently the Director of Pupil Services for the
Marple Newtown School District.
His Pennsylvania certifications include: General Science,
Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, and Secondary Principal.
In addition, Bill has a Pennsylvania Letter of Eligibility for
Superintendent. He and his wife, Maggie, residents of Bala Cynwyd
for 31 years, raised their four children in Lower Merion.
Their granddaughter is a student at Penn Valley Elementary.
-
Larry Hollin is a
principal of Independence Capital Partners (ICP), a family of
Private Equity and Real Estate Funds with over $6 billion under
management. His economic and finance background will benefit the
school board. Additionally,
he holds a J.D. from University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he
has also served as a guest lecturer, and is a member of the
Pennsylvania Bar. He
graduated Magna Cum Laude from both the University of Pennsylvania’s
Wharton School of Business, with a degree in economics, as well as
the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Larry, a product Lower Merion schools, lives in Bala
Cynwyd with his wife and two daughters, who will also be attending
Lower Merion schools.
-
Shelley Marine, a
homegrown candidate for the Lower Merion School Board, attended Penn
Wynne Elementary School, Ardmore Junior High and Lower Merion High
School. She also went
to Gratz College High School and received a degree in Accounting
from Villanova University. Shelley has demonstrated her commitment
to the Lower Merion School district over the past eight years as
president of the Cynwyd Elementary Home and School Association and
currently as Co-President of the Bala Cynwyd Middle Home and School
Association. She has
been President of her Hadassah group and active in her synagogue.
Her husband is a science teacher, her son attends Lower Merion High
School and her daughter is a student at Bala Cynwyd Middle School.
They reside in Bala Cynwyd.
- Philip
Zuzelo has lived in Lower Merion most of his life and, like his
siblings, is a product of Lower Merion public schools.
Phil has both a BS in Economics and a Master of Business
Administration from the Wharton School of the University of
Pennsylvania. He runs a
specialty contracting company and has an extensive background in
financial analysis, project management and cost accounting.
His business proficiency and acumen are essential to a
well-rounded school board. Phil
and his wife Emily live in Bryn Mawr and their three children, all
who attend Lower Merion public schools (two at Harriton High School
and one at Gladwyne Elementary).
